Just Ask! Concierge Desk
Verdugo Hills Hospital is proud to be able to offer its patients, physicians, visitors and employees the benefits of a unique concierge services program. The Just Ask! Concierge Desk, on the 4th Floor lobby, can assist patients, and their guests, with errands and personal requests – providing the same level of quality care and service that you would expect while staying at a fine hotel. The Just Ask! Concierge Desk offers discounted movie and amusement park tickets, exclusive deals on auto care and travel services, dry cleaning and laundry drop-off and pick-up, film and digital processing, and shipping and faxing services. Patients - and visitors - can also rent discounted DVDs and a portable DVD player for the duration of their stay. The Just Ask! VHH Concierge Desk is open Monday - Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Wireless
Patients and visitors can get free Internet access from their wireless-enabled laptops while they are on site at Verdugo Hills Hospital.
Wireless access is available throughout the hospital including the cafeteria, the lobby and most patient waiting areas. All web-users have to do is connect to the “Visitors” SSID on their wireless connection. Useful information on the hospital can be accessed at the specially designed website http://visitors.vhhospital.org (when inside the hospital).
Please note that Verdugo Hills Hospital cannot guarantee wireless connections for all users and computers and that hospital policy prohibits our staff from handling any laptop belonging to a patient or a visitor.
Visitors
Family members and friends are welcome and encouraged to visit. In order to preserve the highest quality of care and patient comfort, specific visiting hours have been established for each patient care unit. We suggest that you check with the unit’s nursing station for specific visiting hours. Visitors who arrive at the hospital after 9 p.m. must use the Emergency Department entrance.
There are specially designated lounge areas for visitors on each patient floor and on the main floor in the lobby. Specific waiting areas have been designated for families of patients in the ICU, the Emergency Department, and Surgery. During business hours, a volunteer hostess is on duty in the admissions waiting area on the third floor and in the Emergency Department.
Patient & Family Services
Patient & Family Services has case managers who are assigned to each patient care area and are trained to help patients and family members deal with financial, social, and other problems that relate to illness or hospitalization. Members of the department work with patients and families to help deal with a variety of issues, including discharge planning, social work referrals, and community resources.
Gift Shop
The hospital gift shop, which is staffed by volunteers, is open from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m., Monday through Friday. It is located on the fourth floor near the main entrance to the hospital. The gift shop carries a wide variety of jewelry, collectibles, books, magazines, greeting cards, candy, toiletries, flowers, and plants. Verdugo Hills Café

Verdugo Hills Café is located on the 2nd floor. This full-service cafeteria offers a wide selection of hot and cold menu items daily. The “Verdugo Hills Express" section of the café features fresh-made sandwiches, salads, sushi, fresh fruit and more – all wrapped and ready to go. Our lunch and dinner options include salad bar, soup, pizza, hamburgers, fries, chicken strips, a daily special, and much more. A variety of beverage choices as well as snacks and desserts are also offered. We also serve Starbucks® brewed coffee. Vending machines are located in the cafeteria for your convenience.

Parking
Free parking for patients and visitors is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Preferred parking is designated for patients and visitors outside the main entrance to the hospital as well as throughout the hospital campus. For more information about parking, please call (818) 952-2240.
Insurance
Verdugo Hills Hospital participates in many Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) and Preferred Provider Organizations (PPOs) that are available in Southern California. This includes both Medicare and commercial insurance plans. However, your ability to pay should not prevent you from seeking needed medical care.
Standards for Privacy of Protected Health Information
According to the federal law named the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), you have rights concerning the use of individually identifiable health information. Only individuals with a legitimate “need to know” may access, use, or disclose patient information. Protected health information may be released to other covered healthcare providers without patient authorization if used for treatment, payment, healthcare operations, or for public-good purposes as permitted by state and federal laws. Disclosures of protected health information for uses and disclosures outside treatment, payment, and healthcare operations require patient authorization.
While receiving care in the hospital, you may ask for your name not to be included in the hospital directory, which means that people asking for you will be told “I have no information about this patient.” If you want to receive deliveries of cards and flowers, your name needs to be included in the hospital directory. If you include your name in the hospital directory, your name also will appear on a list for clergy members of your faith.
